Course information
With approx. 200 financial members we provide a wide range of courses, as well Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and workshops on various topics. Should there be sufficient interest, classes can also be arranged and run in any other computer related subject. Courses vary in length some are 4 others are 6 or 8 weeks duration, two hours per week. Courses Currently being run - Email and Internet

Special Interest Groups (SIG) currently running SIGs do not have a formal format and are simply a get-together of members wanting to exchange ideas or ask questions about a common subject and to learn from one another in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. - Scribblers: caters for writers and potential writers of all types.
- Digital Photography: explore the absorbing subject of this art form.
- Email: examines the modern communication method of electronic mail.
- Internet : Find out and learn from others the vast amount of information available that you can access.
- Card Making: the art of making greeting cards and the like.
- Computer Clinic: members learn computer housekeeping, eg. use of anti-virus, spy ware, firewalls, file management, etc
Housekeeping Workshop Covers scandisk, disk defragmentation, registry checker, system file checker, IE repair tool & generally keeping your computer 'clean'. Virus Workshop Covers installing, updating and using virus checkers and firewalls & generally keeping your computer 'healthy'. Mac Computers Mac Computers We are now running fortnightly sessions for Mac users, which are being run by Terry Stowers, retired teacher and tutor, who has been an Apple advocate since the mid 1980s. We are using manuals supplied via Seniornet Christchurch. We initially covered an introduction to the operating system, with people now working on their own choices. These are Switchers (for those who've switched from Windows), Safari & the World Wide Web, iPhoto and Microsoft Word 11. Other courses on offer are Mail, Pages, Numbers, Address Book and iCal, with a course on Lion (the Mac OS on the latest computers) available soon. We have available four MacBook Pro laptops, and those with laptops bring them along. The group work extremely well together and the only dumb questions are the ones not asked. We also have available iPads and Samsung tablets. These we will also be covered in workshops and Special Interest groups, more about this later. Membership for 2011/12 is $35.00 payable together with the downloadable application. To apply for membership click here and print out the application form, then forward the completed form with your cheque. All courses they you wish to take are available within this amount of $35, however we have a charge for each manual that is required. This of course will be yours to keep and make notes in as the course progresses. Class times are generally: - 8.45 - 10.45 a.m.

Fees The membership subscription covers the member to do any courses of their choice without payment of a course fee or workshop fee. The student will be required to pay for any consumables supplied for the course or workshop. I.e. Manual, notes, disk. If the student supplies their own USB memory stick a disk may not be required.
